Redefining Blue: Exploring the Next Chapter of Denim Color

At Denim Première Vision Milan, Chloris and Denim Première Vision launched Redefining Blue — an industry validation platform exploring the next chapter of denim color. At the center is Claessen Blue™, Chloris’ bio-based blue platform produced through microbial fermentation and developed for real denim manufacturing.

In denim, color is never judged by shade alone. It has to go through dyeing, oxidation, washing, finishing, rubbing, light exposure, garment look and aging. That is why Redefining Blue is not a product showcase. It is a value-chain validation project.

The first process samples presented and discussed at DPV delivered very encouraging results. In shade depth, hue and wash-down effect, Claessen Blue™ performed beyond our initial expectations.

Another key insight: its milder dyeing, finishing and washing conditions may open new possibilities for creating denim looks on fibers beyond cotton — a point that drew strong interest from brands and industry partners. This is where Claessen Blue™ begins to expand the future of denim: from a new bio-based blue pathway to broader material expression, new fiber possibilities and scalable product innovation.
